Sent Home Policy

A Veeshift Platform Standard for Independent Professionals

Veeshift connects independent nursing professionals with facilities that need coverage. Sometimes a facility's needs change between when a shift is posted and when you arrive โ€” and you may be sent home before working the full shift.

This article explains how Veeshift's Sent Home standards work, when the 2-hour compensation applies, when it doesn't, and what to do step-by-step to make sure you're paid for showing up. These are platform-wide standards every independent professional agrees to as part of the Veeshift Terms of Service when they pick up shifts on the marketplace.

The short version

If you arrive on time and the facility sends you home due to overstaffing, you are eligible for 2 hours of compensation โ€” provided you clock in within 6 minutes of shift start and submit Sent Home through the app.

If you arrive late and the facility sends you home, you are not eligible for the 2-hour payment. That scenario falls under the Late Arrivals & Communication Standards.

When the 2-hour payment applies

All four conditions must be met:

  1. You arrived on time at the facility
  2. You clocked in within 6 minutes of shift start time
  3. The facility sent you home (you didn't leave on your own)
  4. The reason was overstaffing (not lateness, not performance, not a facility cancellation)

If any one of those is missing, the 2-hour payment doesn't apply. We'll cover the most common edge cases below.

Step-by-step: what to do if you're sent home

1. Clock in on site

When you arrive at the facility, clock in through the Veeshift app right away. This is the most important step โ€” without a clock-in, the system has no record that you were physically present, and no payment can be issued.

Clock in within 6 minutes of shift start time (e.g., if your shift starts at 7:00 AM, clock in by 7:06 AM at the latest).

2. Open the shift in the app

Navigate to the shift you were scheduled for.

3. Select "Sent Home."

In the shift options, select Sent Home to indicate you were dismissed by the facility due to overstaffing.

4. Automatic clock-out

Once you select Sent Home, the system will automatically clock you out and prorate the payment for 2 hours' pay. You'll be paid for those 2 hours even though you didn't work the full shift.

How payment works (and why it may take time)

Sent Home submissions go to the facility for approval before payment is released. The facility must approve the shift on their end โ€” Veeshift can't release payment until that approval comes through.

You can track approval status directly on the shift card in the app:

  • Review Status โ†’ facility hasn't been approved yet, (will show Sent Home, see image)
  • Approved โ†’ payment is processing (will show Approved for payment)

The sooner the facility approves, the sooner you're paid. If a Sent Home shift sits in Under Review for an extended period, the holdup is on the facility's side, not Veeshift's.

When the 2-hour payment does NOT apply

There are a few scenarios where Sent Home doesn't qualify for the 2-hour payment. Knowing these up front saves time and frustration.

Late arrivals

If you clock in more than 6 minutes after shift start, you're outside the eligibility window. You can still clock out to free yourself up to grab a nearby shift, but the 2-hour payment will not apply.

Facility cancellation due to lateness

If a facility cancels your shift because you arrived late, that's not an overstaffing situation โ€” it's the facility responding to a coverage gap. The 2-hour payment doesn't apply in this case. (See the Late Arrivals & Communication Standards for more.)

Leaving on your own

If you decide to leave the facility before being formally sent home, that's not a Sent Home situation. The 2-hour payment only applies when the facility actively dismisses you.

No clock-in

If you don't clock in at the facility, the system has no record of your presence. No clock-in, no payment โ€” even if you genuinely showed up on time.

Pro tip: document the person who sent you home

If there's ever a question or dispute about why you were sent home, having the name and title of the person who dismissed you makes resolution much faster. Note it down before you leave the facility.

A final note

The Sent Home standard exists because showing up matters โ€” even when the facility's needs change at the last minute. You honored the agreement by being there on time; the 2-hour payment recognizes that.

Clock in. Submit Sent Home. Track approval on the shift card. The system handles the rest.
