NCNS Policy
No Call No Show (NCNS) Policy
A Veeshift Platform Standard for Independent Professionals
Veeshift connects independent nursing professionals with facilities that need coverage. When a professional accepts a shift and then doesn't show up โ without communication โ facilities are left scrambling, and residents go without care.
This article explains how Veeshift's No Call No Show (NCNS) standards work, the situations that trigger an NCNS policy to kick in, and how to avoid one. These are platform-wide standards every independent professional agrees to as part of the Veeshift Terms of Service when they pick up shifts on the marketplace.
The short version
An NCNS is the most serious mark on a professional's record on the Veeshift platform. It happens when a shift is missed without communication or when communication promises aren't kept.
Two NCNSes within a rolling period trigger a 60-day account freeze. A third NCNS results in account deactivation. Avoiding an NCNS is almost always possible โ it just requires honest communication through the app.
What counts as an NCNS
There are two main paths into an NCNS. Both are easy to avoid with one tap inside the app.
1. No clock-in + no ETA update past 30 minutes after start
If 30 minutes into your scheduled shift, you haven't clocked in, and you haven't updated an ETA in the Running Late section, the platform automatically registers an NCNS.
This is the classic NCNS scenario โ silent absence. The fix is simple: update your status in the app the moment you know you'll be late.
2. Stated ETA expires past 30 minutes late
If you've selected Under 15 min late or 15โ30 min late in the Running Late section, and the clock keeps ticking past your stated ETA, once you cross 30 minutes past shift start, the platform automatically converts the shift to an NCNS, even if your last update said something less.
This is why being honest about your ETA upfront matters. Selecting 30+ min late registers as a Late Cancellation (LC), which is a lighter outcome than letting an underestimated ETA expire into an NCNS.
Honesty up front = lighter policy applied. Optimism that doesn't pan out = heavier policy applied.
What happens after an NCNS
NCNSes are tracked on a rolling basis. Each NCNS escalates the policy:
NCNS Count
Policy
1st NCNS
60-day account freeze
2nd NCNS
60-day account freeze
3rd NCNS
Account deactivation
What does a freeze mean
- Your upcoming shifts stay on your schedule. A freeze doesn't pull shifts you've already accepted โ those remain active.
- You can't pick up new shifts during the freeze period.
- Once the freeze lifts, reactivation may be subject to review.
What deactivation means
A 3rd NCNS results in complete removal from the Veeshift platform. Reactivation after deactivation is rare and not guaranteed.
How to avoid an NCNS
Every NCNS is preventable. The platform gives you multiple tools to communicate before it ever gets close.
Only accept shifts you're confident you can work
The 1099 model gives you full control over which shifts you take. Use that control. If a shift is borderline (uncertain transportation, child care backup, work conflict elsewhere), pass on it. Picking up shifts you can't reliably honor hurts your standing on the platform faster than not picking them up at all.
Use the 24-hour cancellation window when you can
If you realize ahead of time you can't make a shift, cancel more than 24 hours before the start. That's outside the LC window and has no impact on your record. The marketplace has time to find replacement coverage.
Reconfirm your shift when the 12-hour window opens
The reconfirmation window opens 12 hours before the shift starts. Tap Reconfirm On Time Arrival in the Shift Confirmation section as soon as you can โ like flight check-in. Silent professionals get flagged for replacement; reconfirmed professionals don't.
Update your ETA as soon as you know you'll be late
If something comes up and you'll be running late, open the shift and select your honest ETA in the Running Late section:
- Under 15 minutes late โ minor delay, you'll be there shortly
- 15โ30 minutes late โ meaningful delay, facility plans for delayed handoff
- 30+ minutes late โ registers as a Late Cancellation (LC, not NCNS)
Be honest about which one you select. If you'll genuinely be 45 minutes late, choose 30+ min late up front. Selecting Under 15 min late and arriving 45 minutes late converts to an NCNS โ heavier than the LC you would've received by being upfront.
Tap "Heading Out" when you actually leave
When you walk out the door toward the facility, tap Heading Out under the Ready to Go section. This signals to the facility that you're in motion. Even if you've selected a Running Late ETA, tap Heading Out the moment you start the trip.
Stay reachable
Be available by phone when you're inside the shift window. If Veeshift or the facility tries to reach you to confirm a new ETA, an unanswered call followed by a missed shift escalates the situation fast.
Last resort: submit a Late Cancellation
If you're inside the 24-hour window and you genuinely cannot work the shift, submitting a Late Cancellation through the Cancel Shift within 24 hours section is always preferable to no-showing. An LC carries a lighter freeze than an NCNS, and your professional standing recovers faster.

NCNS vs. Late Cancellation: why the distinction matters
The platform deliberately separates these two outcomes because honest communication should be rewarded with a lighter policy.
A professional who selects 30+ min late upfront is being honest with the facility โ the facility knows the shift won't be covered and can source a replacement immediately. That honesty earns the lighter LC outcome.
A professional who underestimates their ETA, leaves the facility expecting them, and never shows is causing real harm. The facility waited. Coverage wasn't sourced. Residents went without care. That's why the NCNS policy is heavier.
The path to a lighter outcome is always available โ communicate honestly through the app.
Need help?
If you're running late, having an emergency, or facing an unexpected issue with a shift, reach out before the situation escalates:
- Phone: 800-961-7745
- Email: Help@veeshift.com
- In-app chat: Available in the Veeshift app
Catching a problem early โ even with a quick call โ can often prevent an NCNS from being registered. Once a shift crosses the NCNS threshold, the mark is automatic.

A final note
NCNSes are the most serious thing that can happen to a professional's standing on the Veeshift platform โ but they're also the most preventable. Every path that leads to an NCNS has a clear off-ramp inside the app: reconfirm, update your ETA honestly, tap Heading Out, or submit a Late Cancellation if you truly can't make it.
The marketplace works because facilities trust that the professionals who accept shifts will show up โ or, when life happens, will say so. Communicate honestly. The platform rewards it.
