Late Cancellation Policy

A Veeshift Platform Standard for Independent Professionals

Veeshift connects independent nursing professionals with facilities that need coverage. As an independent contractor, you have the flexibility to choose your shifts โ€” and once you accept one, the facility builds its schedule plan around you.

This article explains how Veeshift's Late Cancellation (LC) standards work, the three ways an LC can be registered, what happens after one is recorded, and how to stay in good standing on the platform. These are platform-wide standards every independent professional agrees to as part of the Veeshift Terms of Service when they pick up shifts on the marketplace.

What counts as a Late Cancellation

A Late Cancellation is registered when a shift you accepted isn't honored as agreed and the cancellation happens inside the 24-hour window before shift start.

Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance don't count as LCs. Plans change โ€” Veeshift's standards only kick in once you're inside that final day, when facilities have already built their schedule around your commitment.

The three ways an LC can be registered

There are three paths into a Late Cancellation. All three trigger the same freeze tiers (covered below).

1. Manual submission (Cancel Shift within 24 hours)

You proactively submit an LC through the Cancel Shift within 24 hours section in the app. Once submitted, the shift is removed from your schedule, a replacement is posted to the marketplace immediately, and the LC is final and cannot be reversed.

Use this only for true emergencies.

2. Selecting "30+ minutes late" in Running Late

If you're going to arrive more than 30 minutes after shift start and select 30+ min late in the Running Late section, the platform automatically registers the shift as an LC. A replacement is posted to the marketplace.

Selecting 30+ min late honestly is the right call when you'll genuinely be that delayed โ€” it's a lighter outcome than letting the clock run past a shorter ETA, which converts to a No Call No Show (NCNS).

3. Silent replacement inside the 2-hour window

If you haven't reconfirmed your shift or updated an ETA, and you're inside 2 hours of shift start with no communication, the platform may post the shift to the marketplace so the facility isn't left without coverage. If another professional picks it up, your shift converts to an LC.

If no one picks it up, the shift remains yours.

(For full details on reconfirmation and the 2-hour window, see the Late Arrivals & Communication Standards article.)

What happens after an LC

Late Cancellations are tracked on a 30-day rolling basis. Each LC inside that window escalates the freeze tier:

LC Count (in 30 days)

Account Freeze

1st LC

24-hour freeze

2nd LC

14-day freeze

3rd LC

30-day freeze

What a freeze means

  • Your upcoming shifts stay on your schedule. A freeze doesn't pull shifts you've already accepted โ€” those remain active.
  • You can't pick up new shifts during the freeze period.
  • Once the freeze lifts, you're back in good standing automatically. No reactivation request needed for standard freezes.

After repeated LCs

After multiple freezes within a short period, account reactivation may be subject to review. This is to protect facilities and providers who rely on the marketplace functioning reliably.

Why this policy exists

Veeshift doesn't dictate how you do your work. You're an independent contractor, you set your own schedule, and you choose which shifts to accept. What the platform does require โ€” across the board, for everyone โ€” is that the shifts you accept are honored, or that cancellations happen with enough lead time for facilities to find replacements.

A nurse who LCs at hour 23 leaves the facility scrambling. A nurse who cancels at hour 25 gives the marketplace time to source coverage. The 24-hour line is the difference between a manageable schedule change and a unit-wide coverage crisis.

The freeze tiers exist to protect the marketplace as a whole โ€” facilities need to trust that confirmed shifts will be completed, and reliable providers benefit from a platform where unreliable ones don't crowd them out of preferred shifts.

Maximizing your opportunities

Independent professionals who maintain strong reliability records get more from the platform:

  • Continued access to preferred shifts at top facilities
  • Higher-tier standing with better shift visibility
  • Stronger facility ratings, which lead to repeat requests and friendly relationships

Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance don't affect any of this. The standard applies only inside the final 24-hour window.

Important notes

  • This is a platform standard, not an employment policy. Your access to shifts on Veeshift is based on platform engagement and reliability โ€” not employment requirements. The freeze tiers are marketplace mechanics, not disciplinary actions.
  • LC submissions are final. Once you submit an LC through the Cancel Shift within 24 hours section, it cannot be reversed. Submit only if you are certain.
  • All three LC paths count toward the same 30-day rolling total. A manual submission, a 30+ min late selection, and a silent-window LC all stack equally.

A final note

Veeshift's marketplace works because facilities trust that the professionals who accept shifts will show up โ€” or, when life happens, give enough notice for someone else to step in. You're running your own practice as an independent professional. These standards aren't about controlling how you work. They're about making sure the agreement you entered into when you accepted the shift gets honored, one way or another.

Cancel early when you can. Communicate when you can't. The marketplace rewards both.
