Late Arrival Policy
Late Arrivals & Communication Standards
A Veeshift Platform Standard for Independent Professionals
Veeshift connects independent nursing professionals with facilities that need coverage. When you accept a shift through the platform, you're entering into an independent agreement with that facility β and the most important commitment you make is showing up on time, or keeping everyone informed when plans change.
This article explains how Veeshift's communication standards work, what tools you have inside the app to manage your arrival status, and what happens when shifts aren't honored as you signed up for. These are platform-wide standards every independent professional agrees to as part of the Veeshift Terms of Service when they pick up shifts on the marketplace.
Why this matters
Facilities β nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, and similar settings β build their staffing plans around the shifts you accept. A resident's care, a unit's coverage, and a charge nurse's whole shift can hinge on whether the professional they're expecting walks through the door on time.
Veeshift doesn't dictate how you do your work. You're an independent contractor, you set your own schedule, and you choose which shifts to accept. What the platform does require β across the board, for everyone β is honest, timely communication about whether you're going to be there.
That's the deal. Pick the shifts that work for you, and keep facilities in the loop.
The core standards at a glance
Here are the three things every independent professional commits to when accepting a shift:
- Reconfirm your shift once the 12-hour window opens β by tapping Reconfirm On Time Arrival, or by updating your status using the Running Late options inside the app.
- A recommended best practice is to reconfirm or communicate before the 2-hour mark. When the platform sees no communication and no reconfirmation inside the 2-hour window, it may post the shift to the marketplace so the facility isn't left without coverage. If another professional picks it up, your shift converts to a Late Cancellation (see LC Policy).
- **Tapping '**Heading Out' when you're walking out the door is a strong best practice β whether you'll be on time or running behind. Professionals who consistently keep facilities in the loop tend to build the strongest reputations on the platform.
Reconfirming your shift (the 12-hour window)
Reconfirmation opens 12 hours before your shift start time β think of it like flight check-in. You can't reconfirm earlier than that. Once the window opens, head into the shift in the Veeshift app and either:
- **Tap **Reconfirm On Time Arrival β you're good to go, no changes.
- Update your ETA in the Running Late section if you already know you'll be delayed.
That's it. One tap, and the facility knows what to expect.
If you visit the shift earlier than 12 hours before start, the reconfirmation option won't be available yet. Come back inside the 12-hour window.
The 2-hour window (recommended best practice)
Reconfirming or communicating an updated ETA before the 2-hour-before-start mark is a strong best practice we recommend to every independent professional on the platform.
Here's why: when the platform sees no communication or reconfirmation from you within the 2-hour window, it may post the shift to the marketplace so the facility isn't left without coverage.
- If no one picks it up, the shift remains yours.
- If another professional picks it up, your shift converts to a Late Cancellation, and the LC Policy applies. (See: Late Cancellation Policy)
- if the facility cancels your shift or you are sent home because you didn't reconfirm, you will not be compensated the sent-home pay, as shift would be cancelled due to no reconfirmation of the shift.
This isn't a penalty for being busy β it's a marketplace mechanic that exists to protect facilities from being left short-staffed when a professional has gone silent. A 10-second tap inside the app is the simplest way to keep your shift yours.
Running Late: choosing the right ETA
If something comes up and you know you won't make the start time, open the shift and choose the option that honestly reflects when you'll arrive:
ETA Option
What it means
Under 15 minutes late
You'll be there shortly after start time.
15β30 minutes late
You'll be there, but the facility should plan for a delayed handoff.
30+ minutes late
This converts to a Late Cancellation, and the LC Policy applies.
Be precise β and be honest
The single most important thing about this system: pick the option that's actually true.
If you've already updated to "Under 15 minutes late"Β orΒ "15β30 minutes late," and the clock keeps ticking past that window, the platform will automatically mark the shift as a No Call No Show (NCNS) once you cross 30 minutes β even if your last update said something less.
An NCNS carries a heavier penalty than a Late Cancellation. (See: NCNS Policy)
So if you're realistically going to be more than 30 minutes late, the right call is to select 30+ min late up front and accept the Late Cancellation. The LC Policy is the lighter policy. Trying to "save" the shift by selecting a shorter ETA you can't actually meet leads to the harsher NCNS policy being applied.
Honesty up front = lighter policy applied. Optimism that doesn't pan out = heavier policy applied.
β οΈ Important: Late arrival β guaranteed shift
Everything above describes how the platform classifies your shift on your record (LC vs. NCNS, etc.). But there's a separate reality on the facility side:
If you arrive late and the facility tells you they've already found a replacement or no longer need you, you lose the shift β and you are not compensated for it.
The facility is within its rights to fill the gap when a professional doesn't arrive on time. If that happens, the shift is gone, no hours are paid, and the platform consequence (LC or NCNS) still applies based on your timing and updates.
This is different from being sent home due to overstaffing when you arrived on time β that scenario has its own rules and a 2-hour compensation window. See the Sent Home Policy for the full breakdown of when the 2-hour payment applies and when it doesn't.
The short version: late arrivals are not eligible for the Sent Home 2-hour payment. On-time arrivals who are sent home for overstaffing are.
"I'm Heading Out" β a best practice that keeps facilities happy
Whenever you're walking out the door and heading toward the facility, we recommend tapping the 'Heading out'** **button inside the shift (under the Ready to Go section).
It's a recommendation, not a requirement β but it's one of the simplest ways to build a strong reputation with the facilities you work with. Whether you'll be on time or running late, that one tap signals to the facility's charge nurse, scheduler, or staffing coordinator that you're in motion and headed their way.
Even if you've already selected a Running Late ETA, tapping the Heading Out when you head out the door is still a great practice. The ETA tells the facility how late you'll be β 'Heading Out' tells them the trip has started. They're two different signals, and facilities appreciate both.
A small note on timing: tapping Heading Out well before you're actually leaving can frustrate facilities who are watching the clock for you. The recommendation is to tap it when you're genuinely walking out the door.
Independent professionals who consistently keep facilities in the loop tend to be the ones facilities request back, review well, and rate highly on the platform. It's the kind of small habit that compounds over time.
Quick reference: timeline of a shift (recommended best practices)
When
Recommended best practice
More than 12 hours before the start
Reconfirmation isn't open yet β come back inside the window
12 hours before start (window opens)
Tap Reconfirm On Time Arrival, OR choose an ETA if you already know you'll be late
Before the 2-hour mark
Communicate/reconfirm β silence inside this window may result in the shift being posted to the marketplace
When you head out the door
Tap the *Heading out *Button
If something changes en route
Update your ETA honestly (Under 15 / 15β30 / 30+)
Past your stated ETA + 30 min
Auto-converts to NCNS β being precise up front avoids this

A final note
Veeshift's marketplace works because facilities trust that the professionals who accept shifts will show up β or, when life happens, keep them informed. You're running your own practice as an independent professional. These standards aren't about controlling how you work. They're about making sure the agreement you entered into when you accepted the shift gets honored, one way or another.
Keep facilities in the loop. They'll remember it.
