How to DNR a Provider

In this video, we will learn how to mark a provider as "Do Not Return" (DNR).

What happens when you submit a DNR

  • The provider can no longer pick up shifts at your facility — permanently or for two weeks, depending on the type you chose.

  • The provider is notified that a DNR was filed.

  • A permanent DNR is added to the provider’s network-wide standing record

How DNRs affect a provider’s standing across the network

  • Permanent DNRs feed a network-wide provider standing process:

  • Each facility counts once — multiple DNRs from the same facility don’t increase the provider’s total.

  • Providers receive a warning notice at each DNR milestone.

  • A provider who holds permanent DNRs from 4 unique facilities is removed from the VeeShift platform.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. From your calendar choose and open the shift previously worked by the provider, then scroll down to "Quick Actions".

  2. Click on "Do Not Return", then select "Do Not Return Ever" or "Do not Return for 2 Weeks" from the drop-down menu.

  3. In the DNR Reason field, select at least one option to indicate the reason for the DNR. This field is mandatory and must be completed before saving.

  4. Click the "Save" button located in the top right corner.

  5. Click the menu icon in the navigation bar to open the sidebar.

  6. Select "Shifts" from the sidebar menu.

  7. Click on "DNRs" in the expanded shifts menu.

Hiring a provider as in-house staff?

DNRs are tracked as penalties: a provider who receives a DNR from 4 different facilities is automatically removed from the platform. A hire is not a performance issue, so it should never count against the provider.

If you are marking a provider as DNR because your facility hired them directly as in-house staff, select "Working as In-house staff" in the DNR Reason field. This exempts the DNR from the penalty count — the provider simply stops appearing for shifts at your facility, with no impact on their standing on the platform.

By following these steps, you can successfully mark a provider as DNR in the system.
